One of this week’s tabloids claims Katie Holmes is strapped for cash and willing to take any movie role for money. The story is completely bogus. Gossip Cop can correct it.
According to the Globe, the actress has been struggling financially since her 2012 divorce from Tom Cruise. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “Katie needs cash to support her A-list lifestyle, even though she is really now a D-lister! She is willing to take the lowest of low Hollywood roles to avoid sinking into debt. She is just not considered a red-hot commodity in fashion or film.”
As part of their divorce settlement, Cruise pays Holmes $400,000 a year in child support for their daughter Suri, but the outlet claims it’s not enough to cover her expenses. “Katie sometimes regrets not fighting for more cash from Tom, but she just wanted out,” says the outlet’s supposed source, who spitefully adds that the actress “looks like a poor, middle-aged, single mom who can barely take care of herself.”
In addition to the magazine’s article being incredibly mean-spirited, it’s also totally inaccurate. The tabloids hide behind an anonymous and seemingly nonexistent “source” to back up its story. Holmes’ rep, however, is going on to the record to dismiss the claim. The actress’s spokesperson denies that she’s having money issues.
It’s worth noting, this isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has had to call out the Globe for concocting a story surrounding the actress’s financial situation. We busted the tabloid in September for falsely claiming that Jamie Foxx was forcing Holmes to sign a prenup before he would marry her because he didn’t want the actress getting her hands on his fortune. The outlet even stated, “Jamie’s worth more than $100 million, while Katie’s got just a quarter of that.” Regardless of who’s worth what, the story was completely bogus. Holmes and Foxx aren’t planning to walk down the aisle, so they’ve never discussed the terms of a nonexistent prenup.
There’s additional proof that the tabloid has zero insight into the actress’s personal life. In May, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for wrongly reporting that Holmes and Foxx would be getting married over the summer. The two obviously never walked down the aisle this past summer, and that initial article made no mention of any dispute over a prenup. It seems the unreliable outlet just comes up with new narratives as it goes along. This latest one about Holmes’ financial situation is more nonsense.
