DI Bails confronts Charity Dingle in Emmerdale

It was a heartbreaking but triumphant day for Charity Dingle in today’s (May 8) Emmerdale, as she exposed the true nature of DI Bails at a police press conference.

Over the past few weeks, fans have watched Charity (Emma Atkins) come to terms with the re-emergence of the detective, who groomed and raped her when she was just 14 years old.

Following DI Bails’ sinister threats, £20,000 of hush money and even moments of self-doubt, Charity finally admitted her ordeal and returned his bribe at a packed press conference.

Emmerdale viewers were full of praise for the emotional scenes in today’s episode, highlighting Emma’s “incredible” portrayal of such a sensitive and serious issue.

“Emma Atkins is such an amazing actress,” one fan commented, while another agreed: “Emma is absolutely smashing this storyline.”

Calling for Emma to win big at the upcoming British Soap Awards – again – one viewer wrote: “Emma Atkins deserves all the awards in the world.”

“I was so not expecting that but god, Emma’s acting has floored me. She’s bloody phenomenal and that scene was so powerful, I have chills everywhere,” another wrote.

Despite exposing DI Bails once and for all, it seems as though there’s a long road ahead for Charity to get the justice she deserves.

Hinting at what to expect from the soap’s upcoming flashback episode, Emmerdale‘s producer said: “Charity is a character with a complicated, fascinating and heartbreaking history – some of which has previously only been alluded to on screen.

“We wanted to do one of our signature, stylised episodes to fill in the blanks and explore the devastating, formative experiences she went through as a vulnerable teenager – adding in a massive surprise for viewers in the process.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
