On May 9th, an awaited film by Nag Ashwin—Mahanati  officially hit theatres.  The movie has caught everyone’s eyes because it’s a biopic of a special kind. Mahanati chronicles the life of Savithri – one of the most iconic actresses of earlier times. She was the reigning queen of Tollywood and was known to be a singer, dancer and a producer as well. Mahanati intends to talks about Savithri’s rise to stardom and the person she was, when the cameras weren’t rolling. Ever since its release, the movie has been garnering rave reviews! Fans, critics, celebs are calling it the perfect tribute to the sensational actress. What’s more, Keerthy Suresh as Savithri has outdone herself so much  so it almost feels like it’s the yesteryear actress on screen. Critics are declaring it, Keerthy Suresh’s best performance till date. This movie will prove to be a game changer for the promising actress. 2018 has witnessed a wave of change – It began with Anushka Shetty’s Bhaagamathie where Devasena starred in the lead. Her film, apart form garnering positive reviews, managed to rake in a whopping 1 million dollars at the US box office. Nachiyaar was another instance where Jyothika shined as a cop. And now we have Mahanati sealing the deal. It is a sign of the new wave to come. With Mahanati  garnering rave reviews, it could encourage upcoming filmmakers to not only take on daring subjects but also give women a chance. We can’t wait for the wave to hit us!
