Reports that Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are “finally ready to get married” are nothing but fake news. Gossip Cop has already corrected this untrue narrative several times in the last week, but we will keep doing so as long as outlets continue to dupe search engines with this misinformation. Allow us to explain what’s going on.

Exactly one week ago today, the National Enquirer and RadarOnline peddled virtually identical stories in print and online that claimed Stefani had asked Shelton to convert to Catholicism in order for them to get married. Gossip Cop spoke with Stefani’s rep, who confirmed to us on the record that the allegation was totally bogus. Despite our debunking, Celebrity Insider picked up the false claim and regurgitated it two days later with a post of its own that wrongly announced Stefani and Shelton were “ready to wed” now that he was supposedly changing religions.

Then on Monday, The Hollywood Gossip hopped on the bandwagon and did an article of its own, based on Celebrity Insider, that claimed Stefani and Shelton were “ready to get hitched.” Now two more days have gone by and Celebrity Insider is running another post asserting Stefani and Shelton are “finally ready to get married.” Its source for this latest report? That would be The Hollywood Gossip.

To be clear: Celebrity Insider originally picked up the RadarOnline contention about a religious conversion paving the way for a wedding. The Hollywood Gossip then copied from Celebrity Insider. And now Celebrity Insider, apparently oblivious to its own previous posting, is copying The Hollywood Gossip. This is an echo chamber of fake news. Misinformation is spreading from place to place and back again without any consideration for the truth. Had any of these publications fact-checked or bothered to do real research, they would’ve learned that the assertions are all without merit.

And it’s not just Stefani’s spokesperson and Gossip Cop saying that. “Entertainment Tonight” has also reported that Stefani and Shelton are “not ready” to get married and have no intentions of “rushing to change their relationship status any time soon.” On top of these misinformed tabloids and blogs flooding the internet with these wrong allegations, the situation is compounded by search engines being duped by these falsehoods.

It appears stories that are new and more recent are given prominence and priority, regardless of whether they are accurate. So, even though the contentions within this latest Celebrity Insider post have already been debunked, the article is nonetheless being given placement as a “Top Story” (see screengrab below). Consequently, fans who are searching for real news on Stefani and Shelton are instead being fed phony lies that have already been corrected multiple times. As long as this remains the case, Gossip Cop will keep exposing the problem.
